Your best bet is to hire a guide familiar with the area you want to hunt.

I believe you have to take a hunter safety course. Also I'd recommend some target shooting before going hunting. It's a shame when a deer or any game are wounded by someone who is a poor shot.

Learn about what areas of a deer are the best points to shoot one.

Find a sporting goods store in your area and ask some of the patrons about good areas to hunt. Hunters like to brag so you might get a few tips.

Good luck. Deer hunting is great. Cool

First,
Don't get your hopes up that you're going to bag a deer in you first season. The State is bucks only unless you get a permit for a doe, so you have to identify the deer as a buck before you can shoot. Kinda hard if they're running away from you and your in thick woods. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Go quietly no loud talking, coughing, or spitting. When walking in the woods search close and far, by that, I mean look at the woods close to you and slowly work deeper and deeper into what you're looking at. Envision what they would look like looking straight at you. They will freeze sometimes and let you walk right on by. If you're sitting somewhere and one comes by snort or whistle. They will stop moving and it will allow for a cleaner shot. Look for entry trails into fields and groves. Deer will follow a routine weather it be daily, or weekly so if you know when they're in a area at a certain time of day then thats usually will be when they are out. Get doe scent or buck scent and dip a cotton ball or strips of cloth into it and hang it off of branches a few hundred yards apart at head height. Look for rubs where buck have rubbed the bark off of trees.

.....and cross your fingers, its 50% luck at being in the right place at the right time.
