What's your favorite restaurant in Maine?

I have three favorites:

*Cody's Roadhouse in Rockport

*The Brunswick Diner

*The Maine Diner

What's your favorite(s)? I need recommendations. Smile

I very much enjoy The Ground Round.
Looked forward to eating at the much-lauded Dysart's for the first time last April, and it was really awful - lots of unhappy people sending their food back to the kitchen. I guess that's why they're advertising on TV again.

I went to the Ground Round once and didn't enjoy it very much. Maybe it was just a fluke? I've never tried Dysarts... didn't see the appeal of it.

Ground Round & Dysart's

Maybe the quality at Ground Round restaurants varies from place to place. I've never been disappointed at the one in Bangor near the airport.
The appeal of Dysart's was supposed to be the hearty home-cooked food, the kind enjoyed by truckers. I've been living in Maine for 23 years, and everyone I spoke to about Dysart's raved about it so I took my mom there on her birthday last spring. My food wasn't really awful - just average. But my mother ordered Yankee Pot Roast that was little more than dog food, and it was cold. We didn't raise a big fuss about it, but the waitress insisted on removing the charge for Mom's meal from the bill. Another couple at the same table were frequent diners there, and they returned their food, saying it was garbage. This is why I think they've resumed advertising on TV - if it were still fine food, they could coast on their fine reputation of the past.

This is an old post, but I really do want to add to it and say that my favorite local restaurant would be the Ridgetop Restaurant in Knox, ME. The meal definately has that 'home cooked' taste!!
Also important to me in rating a restaurant would be the service, the smile, and the willingness to please goes a long ways. Those are the qualities I've witnessed at the Ridgetop.

This reply is probably outdated by now because 15 years ago I would go to Dysart's and the food was excellent but the ambience was lousy. I didn't care for sitting at picnic type tables with wooden seats and having to listen to the noise of everyone talking.

In Bangor, there was, maybe still is, a small tavern on the southern part of the main drag that had excellent and plentiful whole fried clams (my favorite seafood). I think it was named "Perry's" something or another.

It's virtually impossibe to find whole fried clams in Florida and I really miss eating them being that I'm originally from Portland and all.
