Maine Potatoes

Do Maine potatoes taste any different than potatoes grown elsewhere? Or is that just more Maine jingoism?

Maine potatoes taste great! They taste just like a Maine potato. Now, Idaho potatoes do taste like Idaho potatoes, which doesn't compare at all like Maine potatoes.
I hope I've answered your question.

Much clearer now, thank you, Laura Jane - so it is just jingoism, right? But what about mashed Maine potatoes - do they taste any different? are they any more nutritious than potatoes from Oregon or Minnesota? I'm being very serious here, even though I'm Canadian and, thus, by default, am always funny by accident of birth.

Maine mashed potatoes taste best if you put them in the Vita-Mix with their jackets on, and whir... whir... just 2 seconds. Not only are they more nutritious that way, they are also more edible too.
Now, if you do the third whir..., you will have hot potato soup. Now you can add all sorts of veggies and whatever else you like, and one awesome Maine potato soup. mmm mmm mmm yummy!!!

oops.. forgot to add... DO NOT ADD THE KITCHEN SINK!!! Too much aluminum and you'll ruin the reception on your tv.

There is a difference

There is a huge difference. The Mine ones taste a ton better. Idaho potatoes taste really flat or bland. I guesst hough with a potato add enough fixins, it will taste good no matter what.

I find that Mashed potato's from Maine do taste similar to those of Idaho - but ofcourse maine's are better Wink

This is most likely because I add butter & salt & milk to them - but if you were to eat a baked Idaho potato & a baked potato from say, Houlton Maine, you'll find the Maine potato is far Superior in flavor. ^.^

Cool I was raised in Houlton and did my share, as a youth,
of eating, picking, rolling barrels into potato houses
and loading Bangor & Aroostook freight cars.

But that's another story.

One seldom sees Maine potato's for sale where I live now.
I don't miss them ...

For all you ever wanted to know about potato's ...
... clic the pic.

Most of the topics and websites that I've searched about this is on the favor of Maine potatoes. I'm an expert in mashed potatoes and I'm searching for this to find for best potatoes in world for my business in our town. Thanks a lot for this information. This will help a lot in my business. Smile
