Computer maker Dell Inc. will set up a plant in a special economic zone in Sriperumbudur near Chennai in southern India's Tamil Nadu, where it will start building desktop computers the first half of next year.

Dell (Austin, Texas) signed a memorandum of understanding to set up the plant Thursday (Sept. 14) with Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi. The company originally announced its intentions to establish manufacturing in India in May, to meet increasing sales here.

Dell will invest $60 million in the plant, which will employ over 1,000. Dell's suppliers are also likely to locate near the plant.

Computer makers HP and Lenovo already have India plants. Unlike its rivals who only assemble PCs in India, Dell said its new plant would be a full-fledged facility.

I had a little issue with some India guy. I called because I was having a problem with the keyboard on a new computer I bought. The guy asked me when I bought the system and I told him the first of the month (this was in November). He then asked me what month... This one. He asked 2005 or 2006 and which point I had enough and in a raised voice said: "Obviously 2006 you idiot.. I said THIS MONTH".

Wow!

Talk about being rude. Sheesh, don't you know that 'this month' could mean anything in a different language. Hell, it might mean last year. haha
